Welcome fellow Discographically minded people
That is:
- Nick Morgan
- Jonathan Summers
- Daniel Leach Wilkinson
- The lovely Samantha
Some preamble and conventions in this attempt
- Company
- The simplest form is used Gramophone is The Gramophone Company, G&T, La voce del Padrone and anything else issued through this group of companies. Columbia is treated similarity. Parlophone, Beka, Odeon will be under Lindström. As each company preserved its matrix independence until at least the end of the 78 period, there should be no confusion
- Matrix & TakeNumbers
- These are hell for they are designated in all kinds of ways. For clarity I have presented each matrix as a single string '3456b' or '0EA23432' or 'HO1345al' If there should be a duplication across companies then these will be listed on the matrix number page. as there will be only be at most one or two duplicates the matrix pages should be reasonably concise.
- Take numbers are given a separate box. in the early period each matrix was actually a take in that case the the format [-1] is given in all other instances -1, -2 etc will be shown, For companies that issued letters or symbols for a particular take these will be converted to numerals for consistency. A page explaining each matrix system will be given for each company.
- Composers
- The name is given in in the form Elgar, Edward on all pages but will redirect to Elgar, Edward (composer) - A link to another page for Elgar, Edward (conductor) will be found there.
- Work
- The title of a composition is something of an intractable issue. For clarity The Fairy Lough ~ An Irish Idyll in 6 Miniatures, Op.77 : No. 2 in all pages as that shows the name the work is commonly known followed by a tilde which links it to the collection or work of which it formas a part. The composition itself will be listed formally on the composer page and the composition title as An Irish Idyll in 6 Miniatures, Op.77 where the details will be given in separate divisions. For composer with a large number of compositions an index page will have to be provided to avoid confusion.
